LITERATURE: A Wish

I wish I was born with no stones in my mouth
But a voice like honey and wine
Or a song that came in unsung words
That wove like silks of fine
If so, then the endless jeerings would end
And the endless jabs would dull
The hoards of insults, of bits and sizes
Would strike themselves till null
And maybe then I would be able to speak,
No strife, no fire, no fear.
No children would come to jab and poke.
And finally, well, finally, they would hear.
No one should have to go through,
A reluctant and stubborn tongue,
And no one should ever have to go through
The idle tortures of being young.
And because I have a story tell
As much as all of you have to do
No trembling lip or twist of tongue
Should stop me from telling you.
It will take some time, much more than a day
But time will always bring
A day when all would be right
And free from yesterday's sting.
