Paano Ko Sasabihin?
Romantic-comedy movies these days are so cliché and truth be told, Tagalog rom-coms are the worst. To find a good one seems so
impossible, but the sky seems to have showered a grace so rare because I found
one.
“Paano Ko Sasabihin?” directed by Richard Legaspi is of
course about the typical love story of boy meets girl, girl meets boy. The plot
revolves around the hustle and bustle of Manila and the LRT mayhem but what’s
really interesting about the film is how it twisted the story by making the
lives of Ehryl (Erich Gonzales) and Mike (Enchong Dee) connected through their
knowledge of sign language, making them perceive that the other is deaf and
mute.
The film, although too cliché and stereotyped, gave a different
take on the saying “love is blind.” It takes a big heart to love greatly and an
even bigger heart to love someone who’s incomplete. For Ehryl and Mike, it was
all for love and not once did they think twice.
The indifference for imperfections—the other being deaf or mute—is what sets it apart from the traditional rom-com films.
