Quizzes, exams, reports, and all those
phonemes you and I need to memorize! It’s exhausting and draining… but you turn
around and what? You see these dazzling SLPs looking like
hey-I-got-a-hundred-hours-of-sleep-and-some-spa-time! Oh great! And they even
have time to join pageants!
So
worry (and envy) no more! Because we talked to them and they spilled their
secrets on how to look like Aphrodite and Hercules! Plus, we got scoops so deep
into their pure and loving hearts!
We
even got a chance to talk to the funny and handsome reigning CRS Ambassador! I
hope your dentists are in the house because we got some major candies! Check them out under the cut:

What made you join RSAA?
During third year, I decided to make the most out
of my college life. I joined organizations, accepted hosting gigs, and really
maximized opportunities that come my way. Initially, my classmates asked and teased
me to join RSAA. I was hesitant at first because I know there are better guys
in our class who can represent my block better, but after realizing that
there's nothing to lose and that the class will help me financially throughout
the competition, I agreed to join.
Do you have any peculiar jinxes before
hitting the stage?
I learned that when you are nervous minutes before
you get to the stage, you push a wall with all your might and shout as loud as
you can. That actually lessens the tension and relaxes you a bit. So I did it
during RSAA. I also give a pep-talk to myself saying, "Terence, you can do
it!" HAHAHA because if you do not believe in yourself, then no one will.
What makes you feel beautiful?

You're insecure, don't know what for… I say I just present myself the way I am
most comfortable with. Being me is the best way to do it.
How will you empower other SLP students
to rise and help promote SLP?
It is really evident how the world lacks knowledge
on what SLP is. And for me, by taking opportunities like joining RSAA and being
able to represent the entire college in TYAA, I have contributed in promoting
what SLP is. It is really through stepping out of your comfort zone that you
start to grow and get to know yourself better. So to the younger SLPs, find
something that you love doing, and use it as an avenue to help the world gain
awareness on what SLP is.

Although it may be difficult at times, when you got
so many things to handle and balance and you got no time to do everything, you
just smile. Stay positive and just enjoy what you do.
L-Love what you do
Love and enjoy what you do because it is in finding
simple joys that would really make the journey worth it. The people around you
have already shared their part by supporting and motivating you in more ways
than you can imagine.
P-Pretend to be the best
A friend who joined the pageant told me a few days
before the coronation night "Basta, isipin mo lang, sa araw na 'yun, ikaw
'yung pinakagwapo." It sounded silly but if you come to think of it, you
actually have nothing else to do but show the world how incredible you are. You
only get a few minutes of exposure and in that span of time, you have to show the
audience that you are a winner and that you possess the characteristics the
judges are looking for. But always remember that there is a very thin line
between being confident and overconfident. So stay grounded and just feel the
moment.

What made you join RSAA?
I was brought into this by my friends so and it
turned out to be an amazing and eye-opening experience on what some people
really do on a daily basis. RSAA so far is really fun.
Do you have any peculiar jinxes before
hitting the stage?
I usually listen to really relaxing music so I
would not be so tensed on stage and so I can put my thoughts in line.
What makes you feel beautiful?
It's all the love and support I get from my family
and friends, although pageants are usually about looks, having someone who
supports you really helps in feeling confident on and off the stage.
What will you help advocate if you win
RSAA?
Other than the conservation and protection of the
Mindoro Bleeding Heart Bird, I'd really want to advocate for who we are and
what we do as Speech-Language Pathologists.

It may be hard, but getting those extra hours

I'm not someone who really enjoys pageants, let
alone joining one, but the friends I've made and the people I met made me grow
as an individual as well.
P- Pray and Perform
You pray to have that extra hand and guidance to
help you grow and get through it all. Perform at your 101% because anything you

What made you join RSAA?
There are plenty of ways to implement certain
advocacies in our University and I believe that joining the RSAA is one way of
being the voice of innovation, change, and empowerment in our department and
this inspired me to join.
Do you have any peculiar jinxes before
hitting the stage?
I don't have any peculiar jinxes for I always
believe that everything works with mind over matter. Free your mind from
negativity and equip yourself with prayer.
What makes you feel beautiful?
We all have different standards on how we consider
ourselves beautiful. For me, having a strong mind, rigid will, and confidence
is enough to make me feel beautiful.
What will you help advocate if you win
RSAA?
As a freshman, I have observed that there's a need
to have light posts inside the campus for safety purposes especially for
students having night classes. Having a shuttle for visitors could also be
helpful considering that there are Senior Citizens that would love to visit our
school since it's considered as one of the historical places in our country.
Having outreach programs and talks could also be helpful in strengthening our
Thomasian values.

In order to be inspired and not to feel stressed in
preparing for RSAA, one must consider this as not a competition of beauty and
brains but as a service to be an advocate of change and improvement in our
second home.
L-learn to manage
Aside from being an advocate, we get to learn how
to manage lots of factors in RSAA. We get to cope with our time for academics,
extracurricular activities, friends and family. We also learn how to balance
our priorities. In short, to survive RSAA one should consider the journey
similar into riding a bike. Keep your balance to keep moving & enjoy the
ride.

The simplest yet the best way to be fully geared is
to be with God. There is nothing more powerful than prayer, for with prayer
impossible becomes possible. As long as you keep the faith then you can conquer
everything.

What made you join RSAA?
I considered joining RSAA to support my friends who
are handling the project. But what really drove me to accept the challenge was
the overwhelming support of my classmates. I want to make them proud and I'll
do my best to make sure that 3SLP is well represented.
Do you have any peculiar jinxes before
hitting the stage?
I don't have any jinxes per se, but I always pray
that I won't trip. I tend to panic a lot and walk and talk nonstop.
What makes you feel beautiful?
I feel most beautiful when I'm confident.
Confidence assures my every step, smile, and every word that I say. It makes me
feel like I can do anything and that in itself makes me feel beautiful.
What will you help advocate if you win
RSAA?
Given the chance to win RSAA, my advocacy will be
for the habilitation and rehabilitation of individuals with special needs. I
hope for them to get treated as people with different capacities who can still
be a part of the society and not as burdens to the society. I want to educate
the masses that there are a lot we can do to let them do things on their own
and not depend on others.

L-Language Formation
I practice quick meaningful sentence formation. I
make sure that the components of language, content, form, and use, are
accurate.
P-Pray
Through all the headaches and laughter this pageant
brings, I never forget to pray. I pray when I am grateful and happy, and when I
am down and needing a confidence boost. I always pray for guidance and strength
to push through the challenges I'm faced with my head held high.
