SLP Society Executive Board: Life Is A Festival

8:00 PM

Every year, the SLP society gives us events like General Assemblies, LibRehab, that we all enjoy. But behind these events, is a team. A team that amidst all the stress of schoolwork and other life pressure, delivers swiftly. This year, Amplified luckily got the chance to get to know them beyond their academic façade and we found that they are not just hardworking, but full of fun and inspiration too.

What’s your mantra in life?
He knows best, everything has a purpose.

Describe yourself using S, L, and P.

Sentimental, Lighthearted, Prudent

What’s the most fulfilling thing about being a part of the SLP Society Board?
Having the opportunity to make a difference together with the rest of the executive board beyond the classroom setting.
What’s your favorite festival and why?
My Favorite festival would be the Buling-Buling Festival because this was the first ever festival I attended with My Grandpa, this area has always been special to him and having the opportunity to have celebrated it with him when I was younger makes it unforgettable.
If you can help change the world, what would you change first?
If I could, the first thing I would change or rather improve is each one’s self-discipline because a great change can only take effect by each one’s effort in making that change happen.
Do you have any tips on how to balance academics, extra-curricular activities, and your social life?
I believe in the saying that if you want something, it can be possible if you are determined to achieve that goal, nothing will ever be impossible if you put your heart to it. I know it is easier said than done but nothing worth it comes easy, the only limitation you’ll ever have is yourself. To balance it, know how to manage your time, set a goal, be passionate and persevere and the rest is all up to Him.

What’s your mantra in life?
Carpe Diem. Make your life extraordinary.
Describe yourself using S, L, and P.

Strong, Liberal, Passionate

What’s the most fulfilling thing about being a part of the SLP Society Board?
The most fulfilling part of being with the EB is having the opportunity to serve the SLP department - to plan events for them, to be of help when they need something, and to be able to inspire and connect with people. And of course, this isn’t only for us here in UST but for our clients and future patients.
What’s your favorite festival and why? The Festival of Lights. I'm a huge fan of Tangled.
I've always enjoy looking at the sky and the stars and I feel very sentimental about it. There’s actually a festival like that in Ilocos. They call it Fire Festival, but I haven’t had a chance to go yet.
If you can help change the world, what would you change first?
If I could change the world, I'd probably encourage the people to be more loving and more appreciative of life. I know it's not something concrete, like ending poverty or increasing knowledge, but I think love makes the world go round. If people were more kind and compassionate, or if they loved each other, the environment, or even their jobs, the world would be a better place. As we often say, love what you do and the rest will follow. If you're able to love and surrounded by love, then the rest will follow. (Plus, virtues go a long way).
Do you have any tips on how to balance academics, extra-curricular activities, and your social life?
You can’t beat time, you just have to learn to keep up with it. Prioritize the things and events that require your attention. Have time and make plans for the important people in your life. Make a schedule or a checklist. Don’t compromise your health and your life for things that aren’t worth it. Like in therapy, there’s no specific way how to do it. It’s only a matter of figuring your style and what works for you and what will have the best outcome for you. Just remember what and who you’re doing everything for, and I guess that will help you re-center your life when you start to lose control.

What’s your mantra in life?
It’s okay to be scared. Being scared means you’re doing something really, really brave.
Describe yourself using S, L, and P.

Spirited, Likeable, Patient

What’s the most fulfilling thing about being a part of the SLP Society Board?
Since our society is relatively young, I think the most fulfilling part of being in position is having the chance to contribute in molding the society and establishing our establishing our reputation.
What’s your favorite festival and why?
Every December, Pampanga holds the Giant Lantern Festival and when I was a kid my family would drive there, bring dinner and just eat and sit in the car while looking at the lanterns. That definitely goes on top of the list.
If you can help change the world, what would you change first?
Considering what is currently happening in the world, I would want to start with changing the mindset of the people especially those in position and educating them that there are more peaceful ways we can do to resolve the current problems of the society. I strongly believe that any conflict can be resolved when we start to listen and understand where the other party is coming from and knowing what they’re going through.
Do you have any tips on how to balance academics, extra-curricular activities, and your social life?
Meditate and buy a huge calendar!

What’s your mantra in life?
Being impulsive is not a bad thing, it can take you places that you seriously won't regret afterwards.
Describe yourself using S, L, and P.

Sleep, I basically sleep away everything; my problems, my exhaustion and sometimes even my academics. I've been called strong for sleeping through conflicts and I don't take it as a bad thing because I take it as a strength. Laid back, I'm not the kind of person who keeps up with the hype even though I don't like it. I tend to only partake in things that interests me and if I think it is worth the time to splurge on. Perfectionist, it may not be a good thing to others but for me, it is a kind of drive that makes me accomplish my tasks and responsibilities that come about. I may be a perfectionist but I can be compassionate too, so I'm not that kind of a perfectionist as others may say.
What’s the most fulfilling thing about being a part of the SLP Society Board?
Being able to serve other students is such a fulfilling responsibility. I'd always say that "yung pagod sa academics iba sa pagod sa soc"; because at the end of the day, after seeing the smiles of the people I serve, I know that my efforts were worth it, no words needed.
What’s your favorite festival and why?
Although I haven't seen it in the flesh, the concept of Baguio's remarkable Panagbenga festival is clearly one of my faves. It represents the season of blooming and harvesting for some. For me it represents that we all have our own time to bloom and that when that time comes, it would be a rejuvenating and refreshing sight and feeling, it would just be breathtakingly great like the flowers in the parade.
If you can help change the world, what would you change first?
My mindset, it is better to fix yourself first before you start to help other people because in that way it would be more effective.
Do you have any tips on how to balance academics, extra-curricular activities, and your social life?
Don't forget to be a person! You live not only physically but in other aspects as well; and when the day ends or even when you just feel that the whole world is on your shoulders, don't be hesitant to take that nap because there's nothing a good nap can't relieve.

What’s your mantra in life?
My mantra in life is to “Aim for the best version of yourself”. It’s not always about meeting others’ expectations but about being truly satisfied with where and who you are now. Self-improvement should be a goal because there is no limit with what you can do; it’s always up to you if you want to do more with what you already have.

Describe yourself using S, L, and P.
Spontaneous. It’s more of having things come naturally. I usually prefer having things unplanned especially when going out with friends ‘cause I never really know what I’m gonna get into. Laid-back. It’s always nice to take a bit of a breather and have the time to think and talk about the little things whether it’s with family or friends. Practical. It’s more of a trait I grew up with and I usually think about having things for the long-run and not just for the moment.

What’s the most fulfilling thing about being a part of the SLP Society Board?
The most fulfilling thing is seeing people participate and be enthusiastic about the events and other plans we have for them. We always appreciate the feedback and take it as points to improve on to serve the department better.
What’s your favorite festival and why?
My favorite festival is the Panagbenga Festival because it’s one of the first festivals I’ve ever experienced. The float parade is always a sight to see and Baguio’s also one of my favorite places to go to during vacation.
If you can help change the world, what would you change first?
I would want to put more emphasis on education. Millions of children are not able to go to school and I believe every generation has their own talents and it would be waste not to let them flourish in the proper environment. Education is one of the keys to become more prosperous and for our country and the rest of the world to advance. As Nelson Mandela says, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

Do you have any tips on how to balance academics, extra-curricular activities, and your social life?
It’s hard to balance them but it’s always about time management: know your schedule and prioritize your duties. As a student, academics are always on top of the list and it’s about making time for yourself and others. It’s good to have a balance of all three so you’ll experience the most out of your college life!

What’s your mantra in life?
Life is beautiful, love and be thankful” I have always believed that everything that’s happening in our lives has its own reason. Even though there are challenging moments that we face we should always find a way to look at the blessings that we receive, be thankful for it, and give love to others
Describe yourself using S, L, and P.

I would describe myself as Supportive especially to the people who are truly hardworking and want to achieve their goals in life; Loving; and Passionate with all the things that I do.
What’s the most fulfilling thing about being a part of the SLP Society Board?
Being a part of SLP Soc is truly an honor and the most fulfilling thing about being a part of SLP Society Board is I get to serve and give back to my SLP family.
What’s your favorite festival and why?
My favorite festival would be Panagbenga Festival. I just love to see all the blooming and colorful flowers together with the people who efforted designing their beautiful floats.
If you can help change the world, what would you change first?
I still hope and believe that if a person is full of love and care in his heart, our place would be a better place to live in. For me, I can help change the world by showing them the beauty of loving one another.
Do you have any tips on how to balance academics, extra-curricular activities, and your social life?
The most important tip that I can share is to know your priorities, know your passion, and know your strengths and weaknesses. Being able to balance everything in your life might be tough, but knowing your strengths and weaknesses would help you choose on what to prioritize.

What’s your mantra in life?
When you can't find the sunshine, be the sunshine
Describe yourself using S, L, and P.

S- Smile-y. I love to smile L- Little but strong P-Persevering. I always do my best to accomplish my responsibilities.
What’s the most fulfilling thing about being a part of the SLP Society Board?
Being able to serve my fellow SLP students is the most fulfilling thing. With the different events and activities that our EB has in store, we hope to inspire and ignite each person's passion for the profession. Additionally, as we hope to spread more awareness about SLP beyond CRS, knowing that little by little this could be accomplished through the projects makes all the planning worth it.
What’s your favorite festival and why?
I have always been in awe of the colorful costumes and parades of the Carnaval in Rio de Janero, Brazil. Music and dancing are things I love, and this festival is like one big and fun dance party! Brazil is also one place in my bucket list that I wish I could visit one day.
If you can help change the world, what would you change first?
I would change how the world has resulted to violence and wars to solve problems. These only add to it, even innocent lives are not spared.
Do you have any tips on how to balance academics, extra-curricular activities, and your social life?
It is very important to prioritize. If something has a more urgent deadline than the other, that should be accomplished first. Another important skill is time management. Setting a schedule for all the different responsibilities you have will keep you on track. Lastly, have breaks and give yourself "rewards" like going out with your

What’s your mantra in life?
Susuka pero hindi susuko” (joke lang to promise, or joke nga ba?) My mantra in life would probably be “Finish Strong”. I think that giving our best effort in everything we do is always key to success.
Describe yourself using S, L, and P.

S- Soft-hearted, L- Logical, P-Positive
What’s the most fulfilling thing about being a part of the SLP Society Board?
Getting to serve members of the SLP community (block mates,  professors, and even our partner communities) and just putting a smile on their faces.
What’s your favorite festival and why?
My favorite festival is Baguio's annual Panagbenga festival because it celebrates a season of flowering, a season for growing, to bloom into the people we're meant to be (huwaw)
If you can help change the world, what would you change first?
I think the biggest way I can help change the world is probably through myself first. All great changes start small, and before I wanna make this world a better place, I think I need to make myself into a better person first.
Do you have any tips on how to balance academics, extra-curricular activities, and your social life?
One of the best things i’ve learned yet is to give yourself the rest you need, and that you should never feel guilty about getting some sleep. Another tip i can probably give is that it’s okay to miss out on a few barcode outings once in a  while, di ka mamamatay! hahaha.

What’s your mantra in life?
Even when you feel tired, discouraged or ready to give up, your best option is to find the motivation to push forward. Focus on the positive and don’t let distractions get in the way of what you really want.
Describe yourself using S, L, and P.

SCARED- I think I’m still scared with what’s happening right now with my life maybe because everything’s starting to get real especially when it comes to school. LIGHTHEARTED- i am usually a cheerful and carefree type of person. PERSEVERING- I have been through a lot of ups and downs in my life and I know that my perseverance will help me in reaching my goals.

What’s the most fulfilling thing about being a part of the SLP Society Board?
I guess to be able to give back to others while having fun and meeting and working with different types of people that can help you in the future.
What’s your favorite festival and why?
I like the Coachella Music Festival. I guess my love for music is the main reason why I really want to go there someday.
If you can help change the world, what would you change first?
If I can change one thing about the world I would start with eliminating hunger. I've always hated seeing someone hungry, especially the children. It makes me feel sad since I'm always eating. I would go all around manila and give food for those that need it.
Do you have any tips on how to balance academics, extra-curricular activities, and your social life?
Actually i'm still having a hard time perfecting that but what I do is I develop a schedule. You have to know how to prioritize properly, which one of the three you have to focus on. You have to know when is the perfect time to just relax and chill or go out with your family and friends and the right time for intense studying and org works.

What’s your mantra in life?
There’s still hope if you’re breathing and moving. Keep going.
Describe yourself using S, L, and P.
Sarcastic, Lethal, Panicky
What’s the most fulfilling thing about being a part of the SLP Society Board?
I get to be involved not only for my batch, but I get to know the lower batches as well. Ate feels ganon chaz.
What’s your favorite festival and why?
Parada ng Lechon siguro? hahaha the name says it all.
If you can help change the world, what would you change first?
Definitely the way we treat our environment. First we say goodbye to all things plastic. When it comes to paperworks (especially kung drafts pa lang) submit them online. Tapos kung final na, saka nalang yung naka print. Tapos kung pwede e submit yung mga assignments, homeworks, projects etc. sa sratch — we use scratch paper. Also plastic straws!!! GOOD BYE PLASTIC STRAWS. Implement that we use our own plates etc.
Do you have any tips on how to balance academics, extra-curricular activities, and your social life?
Know your priorities. I still have to develop my way of balancing things but as long as you know what you want, you have to know how to get everything done. Also, don’t stress yourself out so much. Enjoy college

What’s your mantra in life?
Never quit on your dreams!
Describe yourself using S, L, and P.
Sociable, Lively and Polite
What’s the most fulfilling thing about being a part of the SLP Society Board?
You get to do tasks which won't normally be done outside the Soc. Also you get to inform your block firsthand about events and announcements. I like helping people out that's why.
What’s your favorite festival and why?
As of now, none yet since I haven't seen all the festivities here in UST yet. #freshielife
If you can help change the world, what would you change first?
Change the system of the rich get richer, while the poor get poorer.
Do you have any tips on how to balance academics, extra-curricular activities, and your social life?
Time management. I make a weekly schedule of the things I know are definitely going to happen. I just add the events where I want to go to and see if I'll be able to make it or not basing it on my academic workload. Academics are always first on my priority list.
