SLPs shine in the General Assembly

           Freshmen, returning students, faculty, administration, and staff always anticipate the annual general assembly of the College of Rehabilitation Sciences. It shows where the college stands in terms of academic excellence and presents goals to which we must strive toward. It also gives recognition to those who excelled and represented the college in their respective fields whether it may be inside or outside the university. Everyone gathered last August 11, 2017 in the UST Medicine Auditorium for the special occasion.         
            The UST Yellow Jackets started it off and got everyone excited. Right after, the Performing Arts Guild members showed their talents in an energetic opening song and dance number. Mr. Sal Anthony I. Sibayan, MSS from the Department of Sports Science Faculty and Fourth Year Speech Language Pathology Student Mico Untalan, hosted the program. The welcoming remarks and introduction of the faculty, administration and staff was done by no other than our Dean, Assoc. Prof. Anne Marie C. Aseron, PTRP, MSPT. She also presented the recent Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy board topnotchers. The Assistant Dean, Asst. Prof. Ma. Georgina D. Mojica, MHPEd presented the college's policies and procedures.            

            Then, Ms. Cherry Gabuyo updated us on the status of our community development program. LibREHAB, one of the core programs of our college was introduced to the freshmen and apprised to the returning students. The UST CRS Crisis Management was informed by Mr. Christian Rimando, the Incident Commander of the college. Ms. Paulin Morato-Espino shared the internationalization activities that happened and are being expected. Ms. Trina, our guidance counselor enlightened us about the guidance services that we can avail. Ms. Ma. Lanie V. Vergara, MA, our SWDB Coordinator, introduced the Student Welfare and Development Board. Ms. Tin presented an EdTech video for the students since some changes have been made to how it can be accessed and how they can use it to its full potential.

           Students of the Speech-Language Pathology course shined with their various accomplishments in their academics, sports or otherwise.             In the Thomasian Goodwill Games 2017, the CRS Women’s Volleyball Team was hailed as the champion. One of the players, Marie Samantha M. Rasco, was a third year Speech-Language Pathology student. In the Futsal Festival Women’s Division 2016-2017, the CRS Women’s Futsal Team was crowned as 1st Runner Up and one player on the team, Mariah Monika J. Quicho was from 2SLP.

            The Pope Leo XIII Community Development Award was awarded to CRS Student Council 2016-2017 for their active participation in the community development acitvities and the highlight was the LibREHAB which occurred during our college week. Officers, Leoncio, Aliea Martina and Sepulchre, Gabriela Angela were from 3SLP and 2SLP respectively.

            In the English Fest Think Globally, Act Locally: Speaking Contest the 1st place came from 2SLP, Aliana Luz Dayrit. It was an impromptu speech contest headed by the SLP Society in coordination with the CRS English Department. She also represented CRS in the annual university-wide speech contest, organized by the UST English Department. Dennis Gascon from 4SLP won bronze in the UAAP Season 79: Men's Individual Fencing Tournament. All were impressed by the multitude of interests the students from the Speech-Language Pathology course had whilst being on top of their academics. Then, Flux, a house in the Performing Arts Guild showed their prowess in a remarkable dance number. It was ended by the closing remarks given by Isabella Dimaguila, CRS Student Council President S.Y. 2017-2018. - by Rezmira Maninang
