"It's more than feeling known or understood. It's more than making you feel the things that I feel. It's not about mythology or mythologizing myself to you."

Megan Washington has been known throughout as one of Australia's premier singers, yet on this incredibly honest Tedx talk, she bares her secret to the world: she stutters. As she depicts in detail her experiences, people can't help but be enamored by her wit, charm, and creativity. Typically, Megan doesn't stammer when she sings, making her adore the pleasant harmonization she is able to produce.

"Understanding what dramatically reduces stuttering during singing may eventually help us understand stuttering better," explains Barry Guitar, Ph.D., of the University of Vermont, author of several Stuttering Foundation publications.

There is always hope for stuttering. It's not the worst thing in the world, as Megan said, but helping people who are going through such an ordeal just might be one way to ameliorate the world.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.

TEDxSydney is an independently organised event licensed from TED by longtime TEDster, Remo Giuffré (REMO General Store) and organised by his General Thinking network of fellow thinkers and other long time collaborators. It has become the leading platform and pipeline for the propagation of Australian ideas, creativity, innovation and culture to the rest of the world.

Megan Washington is a two-time ARIA Award winner and multi-platinum album seller. The full depth and breadth of Washington's talent is perhaps best demonstrated in her critically acclaimed 'Insomnia' EP which was released in early 2012. Where most artists would have pursued obvious commercial routes, 'Insomnia' presented a darker, more intimate side to Megan's writing.
